On to Oathbringer!

I'm hoping this reread of Oathbringer goes better than my first read through. I don't remember a lot from this one. I've only read it once. When I read it when it was first released, I thought that I was finishing a trilogy 😅🤣 Imagine my confusion and disappointment when I got to the end. THEN I learned that Stormlight was NOT a trilogy (omgiwassodumb).

Anyway, Oathbringer was at the bottom of my Stormlight list. But I've only given it one chance with VERY unreasonable expectations.

Also, Baby felt like joining Jasnah on the coffee table for pictures.

About 1/3 of the way back through Words of Radianc

About 1/3 of the way back through Words of Radiance leading up to Wind and Truth.

This is my 3rd time through the first 3 books, and then my 2nd read for Rythm of War.

I also convinced my husband to listen to them with me this time. This is the first time I'm listening to The Stormlight Archive. I'm also reading them alongside the audio (maybe reading a little faster). I will say that it has changed the experience.

For me, the audiobooks are just fine. I prefer the written word for these stories. They just don't feel as impactful.

Anyway, I'm glad I'm going back through these before Wind and Truth because there's some small yet important things that I had forgotten.

Honestly, I haven't had the energy since Tuesday. Like many, I was disappointed but not surprised. I'm going to try to continue to educate and advocate, but right now? I'm tired of the fight. I'm tired of the lip service. I'm tired of women having to be infinitely more qualified than their male counterpart to even consider applying for a job, and obviously they still won't get the job anyway. I'm tired of feeling angry. I'm just tired.

Happy Book Birthday to Sorcery and Small Magics by Maiga Doocy 🎉

I posted about this not too long ago when I was only part way through the story. Having now finished it, I can solidly recommend this story.

Fair warning, this is a Book 1 of a trilogy. I...failed to recognize this until almost the very end 🤦‍♀️

I adored this story! This was the correct mix of well thought out magic, immersive whimsical setting, loveable flawed characters, genuine reactions, romantic frustration, and adventure. I really appreciated the action, actually. Some of the cozy style fantasies just don't have enough going on for my taste. This one packs some emotional punches with actual punches.

If you're not a fan of first-person POVs, you might struggle living as Leo - our main character. I encourage you to stick it out. Leo goes through quite a bit of character growth, and some of his word choice is just perfect. I was thoroughly charmed by Leo. And Grimm 😊

Mysterious ✔️
Ambitious ✔️
Plus several other endearing traits that you'll have to read to find out.

The relationship is a slow burn - more of a glacial thaw, and at times it did feel a little repetitive. However, I was incredibly satisfied with the ending, and my only complaint is that I can't immediately pick up the next book.

I did not want to put this one down while I was reading it. This is a fantastic debut story, and I will (im)patiently wait for the next adventure of Leo and Grimm. If you felt yourself needing a little more adventure in your Legends and Lattes, then check this one out.

There's a new book lounge that just opened up in our historic downtown this week. My mom and I stopped in to check it out today. It is both cozy and swanky, serves some delicious cocktails, and will be a great book club meet-up spot 😊

It sounds like they had a great opening week, and I'm looking forward to going back. I hope they see lots of success!

But what if it gets better?

I'm not feeling the book I'm currently listening to, and for no particular reason. I mean... it's fine. And that's the hard part. The writing isn't terrible, the narrator is ok, the plot is meh, and the characters are only kind of annoying.

I think the only book I ever DNF'd was very clearly not edited or even proofread (it was a very early Kindle publication that was free).

I'm down for a hate-read because how else are your complaints going to be fully informed? But this one is just so.... bland. I can't even bring myself to hate it.

I genuinely hope it gets better.
