There were a lot of good things in this launch of a new trilogy by Mark Lawrence. However, this first book tried to do too much and left the story feeling like it had overstayed its welcome.

The Stars Too Fondly is a fun, quick read that will be good to take pool-side when it is released in June. However, I do think it leans more toward the YA category. I would have tempered my expectations if I had known that going in.

The most beautifully written gory fairy-tale romance story I've ever listened to.
